Venetian Plaster

A thin veneer plaster product originally developed in Venice Italy as a way to plaster walls without adding too much weight as the buildings are gradually sinking into the water and the weight of a three coat one inch thick cementicious plaster system would accelerate the sinking process. Modern manufacturers have added acrylic to this age old system to create a durable troweled on finish that can be burnished and waxed to obtain a high gloss or left as a low sheen wall finish.

Lime Wash

This is a lime based paint that reacts with the moisture in the air and naturally creates a mottled effect as it cures. It produces a natural old world finish similar to that of an integral color coat plaster without the expense and difficulty of installing plaster in an existing residence. It requires a special primer and two coats of lime wash brushed on the way the old timers brushed out walls.

Glazed Finishes

Glazed Wall Finishes
The term glaze means a semi-opaque finish. Manufacturers now sell a product referred to as “Glaze Coat” this is a tintable translucent product that has the added benefit of drying unevenly. This comes as an oil based or water based product and can be used to produce a wide array of colors and effects much too numerous to be detailed here.

Glazed Wood Finishes
Old world finished include a painted base coat with distressing and an over-glaze or color wash to give the wood depth and an aged effect.
